Wonderful resource for theme-based Music Therapy sessions with the senior population. Well-organized, researched and great attention to detail! I especially like the chapter "What's in your stash?" that gives guidance on what instruments to purchase if you are just starting out. That is very helpful since there are so many choices and brands available.
I've used this resource so much as a new professional. It has a good amount of session plan ideas, which are all very modifiable for varying levels of dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.
This has helped inspire me as a starting place when trying to design new music therapy sessions for seniors. I make a lot of adaptations based on what I have available and the lower functioning level of most of my participants, but it has been a very useful tool. Well thought-out in giving lists of additional songs and ideas after the 40 theme-based sessions.

I've been a music therapist for 18 years, and I have really enjoyed and used this book over the past few months. There are many ideas, themes, and song lists to choose from, and ideas can be mixed and matched. For example, if a session plan does not have a songwriting application, you can pull an idea from a different plan and add it in. I would recommend this book to a new or seasoned board certified music therapist (MT-BC). Thanks, Meredith!
