Stardom Seen from a Different Perspective A renowned Hollywood press agent to the superstars... a “starflacker” in a phrase his daughter coined for him... captures the spirit of the Golden Age of Hollywood and of its legendary talents. His very personal experience of their wit, charm and antics, relived in well over a thousand anecdotes, defines a time of classic films and undying stardoms which made Hollywood the world’s code-word for glamor and meaningful entertainment. Reflecting the distinctive originality of the hundreds of stars-forever with whom he worked and interwove, each tale is drawn from his sixty years at the top and on the inside, decades of cherished insights, amusements and adventures. In the process he reveals why there once was a time of beloved stardoms which defined and inspired the public’s shared dreams and values... and why it has slipped away.

OMG! This is one of my all-time favorite books!Dick Guttman is the consumate professional and writer. Sharing little known anecdotes in this "Bible for flackers" (those of us who are publicists, PR professionals, or as Mr. Guttman puts so succinctly, press agents), is fascinating without one "gotcha" from the perspective of a tell-all provocateur.
There are more stars and up-close stories about them than there are in the sky on a clear night. Clint Eastwood, Michael Douglas, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand...just to get you started....

Starflacker Inside the Golden Age of Hollywood Dick Guttman 9780986407109 Books Reviews
After a friend’s prompting, I read legendary press agent Dick Guttman’s memoir Starflacker’ I am glad I did!! My friends at the Holidays will be getting their copy soon. He recounts decades of gems past and present. He lets you in with tales of his encounters with the truly talented greats in the business. He does it with insight, wit and above all respect for his industry and clients. Unheard of these days!!
Guttman knew them all… at a time when they were all worth knowing!! ‘STARFLACKER’ a must read for those of us who love the movies and wish to continue doing so!!!!
If you are into the movies/Hollywood and the wonderful people who entertained us over the years this book is a must!!
This covers it all. Behind the scenes politics and insights to many of the great stars, Worth reading more than once.
Wish they sold autographed copies. Kudo's to Mr. Guttman
'Starflacker' transports the reader 'Inside the Golden Age of Hollywood' in such a unique and informative fashion.
From start to finish you feel the magic that pervades this time and often get lost in the moment, as if you may have be a part of it somehow.
Meanwhile, Mr. Guttman's 'insider tips' of understanding the entertainment business are truly helpful. Although written of a different time, they can easily be transferred as tools to manage yourself or your business in modern-day media,
Anyone who reminisces this special time and/or has an interest to work in show business I would recommend you to read this.
Spicy and delightful stories from a very inside point of view make this a compelling and enjoyable read. Secrets about the famous and life at the top will amuse, inspire and surprise you. Guttman takes you on a glittery and very funny ride to the past which might give you an insight to all that's going on now in Tinseltown.
Dick Guttman's vastly entertaining memoir "Starflacker" was a feast, nay, a banquet for me. Wonderful stories, as only someone from the inside, could recount.
I covered the entertainment world for many years and PR guru Guttman's humorous and lively anecdotes filled in many of the gaps in a fascinating world peopled by some of the greatest names and characters in showbiz from Kirk Douglas to Warren Beatty, Streisand to Michael Caine. If tinsel town fascinates you this is must reading. "A bedside reader for people who love movies" is the line on the cover of "Starflacker." Indeed it is.--ivor davis.
I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. Not only do you get to experience tales full of fascinating casts of characters and intrigue, but you get to learn about the life and experiences of the man behind scenes, whose has been influencing us all, from the Golden Age of Hollywood till today.
The stories will make you laugh and reminisce of the men and women that became the legends you cherish. You'll learn the real stories behind "the stories," and become even more engrossed in the person (with all their faults and virtues) that was behind the star.
It's nostalgic, full of heart, and looks at how the things that have changed in Hollywood and what those things say about society as a whole.
You're going to learn, laugh and love. What more is there?
The book illuminates a career full of excitement, creativity and just plain fun. The celebrities add a shine, but much of the focus and interest is how Dick Guttman, from his earliest beginnings, handled with integrity and a lot of flair the careers of others. Publicity may seem a bit ephemeral to those not in the business, but he explains some of the ups and downs involved, bringing the reader inside the charmed circle of Hollywood. And in a career lasting sixty years, there's a lot of charm and fame to be explored.
OMG! This is one of my all-time favorite books!
